Barnes Waterside, Barnes SW13

Barnes Waterside is an exclusive development in north Barnes, built by Berkeley Homes in the late 1990s on ten hectares of previously derelict land and disused reservoirs owned by Thames Water.  The partnership between Berkeley Homes, Thames Water and the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, funded the adjoining London Wetland Centre, which subsequently opened in 2000.

The architectural brief was to design a v’llage community made up of terraces and crescents with a variety of large villas, town houses and flats in period style. The whole development is set in beautiful gardens adjoining the River Thames on the eastern perimeter and the Wetland Centre to the south. Harrods Village – formerly a soap works, candle-making factory and sugar refinery and later Harrods’ Depository – is sandwiched between Barnes Waterside and the river on the north-eastern boundary.

Barnes Waterside comprises 231 residential units made up of leasehold flats and freehold houses.  Wildlife corridors sweep through the estate, connecting it to the neighbouring Wetland Centre.  As a whole, the Barnes Waterside complex has been launded since its construction as a design masterpiece.
