Area overview
Brentford is a town in West London located within the London Borough of Hounslow. It is situated at the point where the River Thames and the River Brent meet.
Brentford is a historical area which is thought to predate both the Roman occupation of Britain and the founding of London itself. It is often said that Julius Caesar crossed the Thames at Brentford, and as such the area is now listed as a Site of Archaeological Interest. The nearby Gunnersbury Park Museum exhibits many of the local Roman and Viking finds.
Brentford High Street is currently undergoing major regeneration to include new shopping and leisure facilities. The aim of the pioneering project is to transform the area into one of London’s most sought-after waterside destinations. Currently, Brentford has a good mix of brand stores, eclectic independent shops and boutiques, cafes, restaurants, gastropubs, hotels and two museums. The Watermans Arts Centre is located on The Thames offering cinema, theatre, exhibitions and a riverside cafe, bar and restaurant. There is also a weekly farmers’ market.
