Kew is an area located within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is famous for being the location of the Royal Botanic Gardens – also known as Kew Gardens – which is now classed as a World Heritage Site, and includes Kew Palace. Kew is also the home of important historical documents such as the Domesday Book, which is on public display at The National Archives.

Kew has several shopping streets located in the village and Sandycombe Road. Here you will find mostly independent stores, cafes, restaurants and delicatessens. The Original Maids of Honour on Kew Road is a historic family bakery and tea room rumoured to have been a favourite of Henry VIII. There is also a monthly community farmers’ market held in the centre of the village where locals can purchase fresh, locally sourced produce and household goods. Nearby Kew Retail Park is home to many well-known retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Gap.

Restaurants, gastropubs and other gourmet eateries are plentiful in Kew and include The Glasshouse serving sophisticated Modern European cuisine, Kew Grill and Antipodea Kew, an all day Australian brasserie and night time dining spot.

Kew has some beautiful parkland to enjoy, including Kew Green with its cricket club, Westerley Ware, Kew Pond – which is home to a resident population of water birds, and of course Kew Gardens.

Kew is an expensive, sought-after residential area because of its open spaces, schools, transport links and proximity to Kew Gardens. Most of Kew was developed in the late 19th century and is characterised by large detached or semi-detached houses. Further development took place in the 1920s and 1930s, when new houses were built on the market gardens of North Sheen. Grand, expensive Georgian houses sit on Kew Green and along Kew Road, while smaller, more affordable Victorian cottages and terraces are located in Sandycombe Road.

Recently, luxury riverside developments have been built along the banks of the River Thames. Kew Riverside offers a selection of apartments and townhouses and has a residents’ on-site leisure centre.
