St Katharine Docks, Wapping E1W
St Katharine Docks is located within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and is nestled between Tower Bridge and The Tower of London.
St Katharine Docks remained a busy working dock for almost 900 years, until its decline during the 1960s. Most of the original warehouses were demolished and replaced by modern commercial buildings in the 1970s, with the docks themselves becoming a marina. Today the area is filled with luxury yachts, stylish apartments, and trendy boutiques and waterside restaurants.
The east dock is now dominated by the well-established, gated City Quay residential development, which was designed by John Robertson Architects and developed by Taylor Woodrow Capital Developments. Comprising more than 200 contemporary apartments, residents benefit from private balconies or terraces with marina views, and a 24-hour concierge service.
Other popular apartment blocks include Ivory House, which is located within the site’s last original warehouse and is now classed as a Grade II listed building. Many of the apartments have retained some of the original brickwork and are split-level with large windows overlooking the marina. Residents also benefit from a 24-hour security service, lift, and intercom entry system.
Tower Walk is one of the most highly desirable residential riverside streets near the dock, and as such properties can command some of the highest prices in the area. Houseboats are also popular at St Katharine Docks, with residential or leisure mooring fees payable via the Marina Office.
