Area Overview

Greenwich is located in South East London and lies along the south bank of the River Thames,  between Deptford and Thamesmead.

Greenwich is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is world famous as the home to Greenwich Mean Time and the Meridian Line. The Cutty Sark and The Royal Naval College can also be found in Greenwich.

Despite having a vibrant, bustling town centre with an excellent range of shops, restaurants and bars, Greenwich has managed to retain a village feel and old world charm.  Quirky independent stores and boutiques nestle amongst historical buildings and visitor attractions, and as a result the streets are buzzing with tourists all year round.

“Maritime Greenwich is a World Heritage Site with famous historic landmarks”

Greenwich Market has a continental food court as well as a wonderful array of over 120 arts, craft and antique stalls, and if you’re in the mood for some food after a day’s shopping, you can visit one of the area’s many outstanding pubs. The Greenwich Union, which recently made The Guardian’s “10 of the best London pubs” list, has real ales, homemade pork pies and a pleasant beer garden to enjoy.

Thanks to the 2012 Summer Olympics, Greenwich’s sporting facilities were extended to include several new sports clubs and an equestrian centre. Greenwich also has a thriving arts and culture scene and boasts three cinemas, two theatres and a comedy club.

Property in Greenwich

Greenwich has a mix of 18th and 19th century terraced properties, two and three-storey Victorian and Edwardian houses, and 1930s homes and flat conversions. Streets like Diamond Terrace and Ballast Quay – where many of the properties are Grade II Listed – command the heftiest price tags. More affordable properties can be found in and around the soon-to-be regenerated Blackwall Lane area. There are also contemporary apartments boasting on-site leisure facilities, shops, restaurants, gardens and art spaces, which are located within the new developments along the North Greenwich Peninsula.

Green Spaces in and around Greenwich

Greenwich has an abundance of green space to enjoy, including Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park – a four-acre wetland area which is home to a variety of plants and wildlife.
